Aikido Connections
Aikido connections class is not your traditional aikido class (which has “martial” intent; many rules to ensure safety; And “challenging” rolling/”falling” to learn).
Aikido connections is about:
- Playing with open space, owning space, and creating space
- Noticing balance and connection with oneself
- Balance and connection with others providing challenges to your balance and connection
- Practicing “Presence”, first to oneself, then with others
- Learning how to move with ease through “the world” and noticing and releasing tension that inhibits movement and a sense of freedom
- And perhaps of particular interest to Non-violent Communication practioners: to embody compassionate connection through movement with others.
It’s always interesting to me to see how theory converts to practice. For example: How, when we’re not truly aligned and “hearing” the other, we are not as effective as when we are aligned and connected! We’ll be looking at what happens to us when we’re grabbed, pushed, and other forms of contact we may initially feel uncomfortable with. There will be no rolling on the mat. We may occasionally “get down on the ground” There will be no “realistic combat” going on. This will be about symbolic connection and how to embody compassion using aikido principles. How long? one hour.
Ours is a very nice spacious place in which to play with aikido principles and concepts of non-violent connection.
Contributions welcome but not required. (no more than $5 per visit or $20 for month) to help pay the bills for maintaining the space.
Feel free to invite one or two people you think may be interested in sharing this experience. Let us know by email if you’d like to attend, or have questions: info@aikidoschool.org.
